Entry door repair in Metro Detroit: what we fix and when to replace
A front door that drags, leaks air, or will not latch does not always need replacing. Here is what we repair, how we decide, and what to expect.
Drafts and air leaks
Worn weatherstripping and a flattened door sweep are the usual culprits. We replace the seals, sweep, and threshold so the door closes tight and the hallway stops feeling like the porch.
Sticking, dragging, or not latching
Houses settle and hinges wear. We re-shim hinges, adjust the strike plate, and plane or realign the slab so it swings clean and locks without a shoulder.
Rot at the bottom of the frame
Water splashes up and sits. We cut out rotted jamb and sill sections and rebuild them, or fit a new sill, before the damage reaches the framing behind it.
Locks, handlesets, and deadbolts
Loose knobs, failed latches, and old deadbolts get replaced with hardware from our showroom wall. Bring your current set and we will match it or upgrade it.
Add glass to your six-panel door
We have a machine in the shop that cuts your existing door for full or half glass. Bring the door in, we cut it and set the glass. More light in the hall, same door.
Glass and sidelight replacement
Fogged or broken door glass and sidelite inserts can usually be swapped without replacing the whole door. We match the glass style and the frame.
Storm door repair
Closers, handles, screens, and glass panels on storm doors wear out. Most are repairable; when the frame is bent or rusted we will show you a replacement.
Repair or replace your entry door?
If the slab is solid and the problems are seals, hardware, or alignment, repair it. If the door is warped, the frame is rotted through, the glass has failed, or you are chasing drafts every winter, a new entry door is the better value and we will say so. Either way we tell you straight; we sell both.
How entry door service works
Call or send the form with a quick description and a photo if you have one. We come out, diagnose the real cause, and quote the repair on the spot. Seal, sweep, threshold, and hardware work is usually quick; rot repair and glass orders may need a return trip for parts. We tell you the plan before we start. Serving Warren, Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Grosse Pointe, St. Clair Shores, and the rest of Metro Detroit from our showroom on 9 Mile.

Common questions
Can you fix a drafty door?
Yes: new weatherstripping, a new sweep, a threshold adjustment, and hinge work usually stop drafts without replacing the door.
My front door will not latch. Can that be fixed?
Almost always. Settling and hinge wear move the door out of line with the strike plate. We re-shim the hinges, adjust the strike, and plane the slab if needed.
Do you repair rot at the bottom of a door frame?
Yes. We cut out the rotted jamb or sill section and rebuild or replace it. If the rot has spread into the wall framing, we will tell you before we start.
Can you replace just the glass in my front door?
In most cases, yes. Door glass and sidelite inserts can be replaced without replacing the door. We match the glass style and the frame.
Do you replace door locks and handlesets?
Yes. We stock handlesets, levers, and deadbolts at the showroom and install them on existing doors.
When should I replace instead of repair?
When the door is warped, the frame is rotted through, the glass has failed, or you keep paying for the same draft fix. We quote both so you can compare.
