5 Easy DIY Door Upgrades

by TaylorDoorCo on December 23, 2013

Let’s face it – doors are one of the items in the home that are commonly forgotten about.  Every home has many different types of doors, they serve as an entryway in and out of the home, as well as transition points between rooms.  There are several easy and inexpensive upgrades that can be done to give the doors in your home a facelift, as well as make them function better.

  1. Front Entry Door: This is the main entry point to your home. This door is the first thing that your guests will see as they enter your home, unfortunately it is often neglected. Giving your front door a facelift can be as simple as a fresh coat of paint or in some instances a replacement door might be the more appropriate route.  Either way; whatever route you choose will make a big difference in the appearance of your home.

  1. Door Sweeps: This is one of the easiest door upgrades that can be done to the doors in your home.  Door sweeps keep the heated or cooled air from escaping past your doors, saving you money.  Door sweeps are inexpensive and easy to install.  DIY Door Store has a wide selection of door sweeps for any application.

  1. Weather Stripping: Another weatherproofing quick fix is to install new door weather stripping.  Just like door sweeps, weather-stripping will keep the good air in and the energy costs down.  Weather-stripping is easy to install in minutes and with simple household hand tools.

  1. Door Handles: Over time door handles and their hardware can take a lot of abuse.  Constant touching and weather can remove the finish off of the handles, making them appear old and ugly.  Replace that old door hardware and give your doors a new look.

  1. Garage Door Openers: Many old garage door openers can be noisy and inefficient.  If your garage door opener makes so some much noise that it wakes up the neighborhood, than it might be time to find a replacement.  Many use their garage doors as a main entry door.  Don’t let your garage door make you an outsider
